Painting Alaska

My interest with Alaska began in 1985 with my first trip to
Sitka.  This was the first of three ventures into Alaska as an
artist.  Back again in the early 90's to visit Denali and then
to Noorvik, an small Eskimo village in the Kobuk Valley,
  located east of Kotzebue.

My paintings were represented in 'The Artist's Cove' galleries
in Sitka, Juneau and Ketchikan, and at the 'Artique' Gallery in
Anchorage for a period of about five years.  In the mid 90's
tourism in Alaska slowed considerably and art galleries were
having a rough time.  So to prevent losing any of my remaining
works to closed galleries, I thought it best at the time to have
the paintings returned to Los Angeles.  Well, since that time
I have only gotten busier over the years with concept art for
the animation studios.  It certainly kept me distracted from
the beautiful Northwest.  I do continue to find time to paint,
but now that I live in the Midwest my focus has shifted to
the prairie and the farm landscape.   Michael
